Movements to Lower
the High-Simmer of Fibromyalgia
YouTube Playlist

“I only found your videos about two months ago, but have had so much progress in how I feel. I did the fibromyalgia playlist movements first because of pain & general “boiling over” sensation. These movements give me so much hope about managing it all. I have been so surprised that the movements are also very powerful at helping with emotional regulation. It’s powerful stuff.”

For those living with Fibromyalgia and related conditions, the Eric Cooper Somatics Method offers a path to relief. People with a tendency for movement to trigger a flare of soreness need to gently lower the high-simmer of background tension that can easily boil over into pain and discomfort. This requires a mindful and gradual approach—cautiously introducing movements to avoid overwhelming the nervous system and sparking next-day soreness. The practice encourages easing into change, teaching the body and nervous system to release tension in a way that feels manageable and safe.
Tiptoe into it; with care, this method can lead to lasting comfort.

Note:

  • It is your responsibility to move safely in these movements. Move in a way that your nervous system feels safe.
  • If you do these movements correctly, they are safe, easy, and enjoyable to do.
  • At first, err on the side of too little effort. Over-efforting the movements will not make positive change in your fibromyalgia. Go gently.
  • Do not go into any pain, discomfort or strain in the movements.
  • Don’t force the change. Use the movements to soothe the system into calmness.
  • Private lessons are adapted to fit your specific needs, limitations, and abilities.
  • It may take private sessions to adapt this method for your specific situation and your specific interplay of patterns.

“I followed this video laying in bed last night, and when you asked if your nervous system is calmer, I realized “wow, yes it is.” And my thoughts and breathing were much calmer as well. I slept like a baby! It is helpful to have a calm peaceful voice guiding you. I will try this again tonight.”

Thank you sooooo much. This took me to real rest. I am not in pain physically, but my mind is busy and by the end of this practice i felt my quiet mind.

“Eric, I did the movement first thing in the morning and found it very gentle for releasing some of the stiffness – amazing how tiny movements can make a change. It was also a super easy to see where I hold more or less tension with being able to take time to scan all the muscles during the movement. Beautiful lesson.”

“How good are you at getting the muscles to relax? Well … that’s what this is.” – That line is beautiful Eric! I’m going to try to remember that my somatic work is me practicing relaxation and release … such a simple yet powerful concept.”
