Address the reason you have back pain

To truly solve the back pain problem, the spasm, strain and ache problem,
takes a zoomed out approach that includes the de-escalation of the oppositional forces.

Your back bears the burden of the silent opposing tensions.
It’s called upon to save the day.

If your back muscles are being held in a persistent high-idle, even while you sleep, they will not be happy.
The back holds open a silently contracted front. The back holds up the closed ribs that allow one shoulder to be low.
The muscles of the back are relationally synchronized to be in contraction when the hip is in a seated position (flexed).
Turning down underlying reasons the back is tight and tired are the key to solving your back problem.

“A true remedy for lower back pain! Thank you for your great work. -S. Osteopath in Australia

SI-Joint Pain

“Thank you again. I can’t express what it’s like to wake up without SI joint pain after 10 years.”
-S., Mathematics Teacher

I can see how the tensions were adding up, and I wasn’t consciously aware of them, or maybe I so used to them adding up without intervening soon enough. Now I am aware of this, I will most certainly be moving my body a lot more, as that seems to be the key. …
I am pleased to say, the sciatic pain has gone! Yay!”

Back spasms on a cross country road trip

“I came to Eric in total desperation. My back and right hip were in spasm and excruciating pain. I was scheduled to drive across country to California the next day and I was scared about all that could go wrong!

I am a yoga teacher and reiki practitioner and great with chronic pain and healing myself but this was something else and I didn’t know what I needed to feel better. Eric took me through really simple movements. They were intuitive and gentle and super easy for me to duplicate on my own.

We made big strides in that first session but I still was nervous about the cross-country trip. Eric made special accommodations for me to come back the next day for a morning appointment. It was like I got a brand new body in two days! But really it was a brand new relationship with the structure and partnership between my back and abdominal muscles.

It is a relationship that I continue to enjoy today. I practice these exercises almost daily because not only do they work to keep my body healthy and moving, they actually feel good to do! I don’t have to motivate to do them when I get out of bed, they are actually the first thing I WANT to do. That, to me, speaks the most highly about the efficacy of what Eric does. The incentive to get better is within the joy of the exercises.

Beyond his skill, Eric is a warm, inviting and interesting person. He holds a great space. His healing office is magical. And you can tell that he really wants you to feel the best that you possibly can. Thank you Eric!” -P.Yoga teacher and Reiki practitioner

Sciatic Pain

“…I do feel that the second session had more of an impact on how I am experiencing my body.  In particular, I pay more attention to my back now and any tightness that may be present there.  And I have not experienced the full-on sciatica nerve tingle for over a week.   In addition, I am finding that I really enjoy the somatics movements, as they are relaxing and provide instant gratification.” -T., University of Michigan Business School Professor

A stressful job, sciatic pain and back pain

“I’ve been going to Eric, occasionally, for the past 4 years after trying multiple pain management and PT specialists with no clear diagnosis or help. Eric has always been able to get me back to normal with a max of 3 sessions. He can pin point source of tension and teach techniques that a patient can utilize at home to prevent a devastating episode of back pain. I recently had a session with Eric after being in pain for almost 3 months and the next day my sciatica pain was virtually gone as well as back pain. Eric is very knowledgeable and effective  in addition to being one of the kindest and caring professionals I’ve ever met.” -G., pharmacist

Client with a very spasmy back, hobbles into my office.
One day after session:

“My back feels A LOT better this afternoon than it did this morning. Although I’d say the pain this morning was relatively less than the morning before I saw you, with a few rounds of the exercises you gave me it feels soo terribly much better – even to the point of forgetting that there is a slight discomfort still. :)”

Two Days after session:

“I’m absolutely gobsmacked that I do not even have a twinge in my back this evening. I’ve been doing my  [gentle movements] morning and night. Truly grateful for your help. I never would have thought it could be helped that quickly. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” -M. business consultant

A client review:(She came for a series of 4 sessions)

“Definitely 100% recommended!!!! Eric is very compassionate and genuinely interested in the well being of the patient, and keeps in touch to check how his patients are feeling after the session. He is very inspiring, and an example of selfless giving and enlightenment that we all wish/hope to attain in life.
His holistic approach to life and health is very healing. I now constantly check my awareness and how feelings impact my overall posture, to activate my self-healing.

He is the most caring provider, that empowers patients to take change of their well-being, instead of taking that power away from them. I wish all healthcare services were that humane, including the whole system, and genuinely interested in humans’ well-being.
I feel at least 10 years younger after his sessions, all because of my posture and awareness of the unconscious baggage I was accepting. My back pain (that I had for the past 16+ years) was gone after his first session, I walked-in in pain, and walked-out of a session with him with a happy spring in my step. Thank you so much! Namaste!” -O., refugee aid worker, medical translator

Client posts on Facebook after a back pain outcall session:

“Total *SHOUT-OUT* to Eric Cooper! I had sudden onset of pain and immobility in hip/sacrum/back area, (difficulty bending, sitting, standing up, etc.) a day before a major trip with air and car travel, etc. Eric Cooper responded immediately, and after a two-hour session working with him, I was 90+% better, and will be departing as planned today! He is the real deal! So grateful!” -C., Uof M professor

The [back] spasms have ended. -N. Retired

Online review from an architect.  Back pain.

This process is for real and actually works.  I’m not easy to convince when it comes to “therapy” for aching muscles and all the accoutrements that make money on this premise.

I was impressed with the follow up information Eric sent home with me and there is no pressure to book another appointment or buy anything as part of the treatment.  I was given links to YouTube videos so I could follow up on my own and continue learning or I could return if I need one on one guidance.

The treatment is gentle and I was amazed how good I felt after the appointment. As other reviews mentioned, Eric is very professional, patient and kind.” –J. Architect

“I’m not gonna lie, I have had ZERO back pain the last two weeks which is insane, I don’t believe it! -client feedback after second session

After years of chronic back pain and two surgeries that did not end the pain:

“This was soooo helpful for me…especially, after I became re-injured. From our sessions, the techniques to you taught me were critical to getting me back to normal. I would begin my day with the “exercises” for lack of a better word, and immediately feel ease in my tight spots…enough so, that I could work my 9 hr shifts. After a lil’ time, I was right as rain. Thank you for your healing education sir! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for lower back/leg relief.” -P., performer

One day after the session:“It was epic for sure!!! Thank you again Eric and I look forward to our next session! My lower back, neck, hips and shoulders still feel amazing, and the lower back pain is gone!!!” Two weeks later, writing: “The homework results are definitely paying off.” -J. massage therapist

From a Yelp! review. Chronic neck and shoulder pain.

“My first session to relieve some neck and back pain was very effective. His guidance through what the sources of my pain was, was educational, and friendly. His direction, confidence, and support may be the first steps toward ending what I assumed would be lifelong chronic pain. I’d recommend his services to anyone who’d like to thoughtfully correct bodily imperfections and get in control of their pain without the use of drugs or medications.” -S, environmental activist

“Almost pain free for the last 2 days. sleeping so soundly I have a hard time waking up. I did not realize that the back pain was affecting my sleep so much. We are getting there. -F, software sales

Two weeks after two sessions for chronic neck pain, back pain, and general postural pain. Female, age 26.

“For many years I had chronic back and hip pain that no amount of massage therapy seemed to help. I’ve been feeling SO good since our last session. The vast majority of my stiffness and pain has vanished.

There’s been a tiny bit of regression, but hardly anything at all. Thanks so much for helping me out with everything. It meant a lot to me! I didn’t think it was possible for this pain to go away. I feel like a giddy 70 year old woman who just got a new hip. It helps that you give out homework to make sure that the positive changes last. It’s been a few weeks since our past session, and the changes have lasted!

The type of therapy that Eric does is different than anything I’ve experienced before. It’s not massage (usually), and not chiropractic. All of his techniques are very gentle. I always felt comfortable during our sessions. All in all, highly recommended!” -Amy, administrative assistant

Upper back pain After more than a year of severe pain between the shoulder blades while sitting and sleeping.

After two visits: “I wanted to tell you I’ve been feeling a good deal better.   Its still there when I sit, so then I end up just rubbing that point in the rib cage and it helps dull it.  I’d say its now almost gone when I’m standing and maybe 40% of what it was before when I’m sitting 🙂  I don’t know how I can thank you.  Seriously, I feel like I’ve gotten my life back in some ways….   Anyways hope you are well!  talk to you soon :)”

Later wrote in a Google review: ” I was very happy with my first session with Eric. He did a more in depth examination to see what was causing my backpain than any other bodyworker I’ve ever worked with. He’s clearly well educated and was intent on figuring out where the source of the pain was coming from, not just treating the symptoms of it. He was also very concerned about my comfort during the session and always asked for feed back on how everything feels. I would recommend to anyone especially those who are dealing with chronic pain.” -Andrea, photographer and yoga instructor

After 4 visits:

“Eric has done great work on me. I used to go once a month for massages to ease shoulder, neck and back pain to various massage studios, since I started going to Eric I haven’t looked back. To me it feels like he is fixing the root problem, a regular massage just seems to temporarily fixes the symptom. Can’t recommend him enough. Plus he’s a super nice guy too!” -Bryan, nightclub manager

“Wow, when I went to bed Friday eve, I noticed how much more RELAXED my back felt when I lay down! It was quite a contrast to how it usually feels!” S. -Language Teacher

One house call, an emergency pain situation. One gentle hour.

Yelp review: “Holy wow! I had been suffering from lower back pain for nearly 2 months. 8 years ago, I had surgery due to herniated discs. I worried that would be my reality again. My leg felt like there were knives stuck in the back of it, with fire brushing across it. For the last week I could take only 20 paces before diving for the floor where I would writhe until the pain subsided. Doctors only treated the symptoms with pain killers and muscle relaxers.

When Eric worked on me, his technique was so gentle and subtle, I have to admit I was at first skeptical that it would be effective. He required just slight resistance from me and there was no straining or uncomfortable periods. He explained that we were changing the way my body had been holding the sacrum in a tilt to the side; that was a big part of the problem.

When I got off the table, I was amazed. Then, I stood. I stood for a good long while. Then, I walked. I walked the whole rest of the day, without a walker or cane or diving for the floor at all! I don’t know how he did what he did exactly, but I know this: I was 75% better than I was before I laid down on that table. I’m looking forward to the next treatment. It would be sooo nice to not have to go under the knife again. Eric Cooper has healing hands! This guy is the real deal! I highly recommend his treatment.” -Jeff, bartender

After 5 occasional sessions:

“I am a super active person. I do everything from yoga, rock/tree climbing, archery to lifting boxes all day at work.   In March 2014, I started seeing Eric, and I have been seeing him ever since. Every time I see him he has learned a new technique to help the body. I love that he is constantly evolving and learning in order to help his clients heal from pain.

He has healed my lower back from an old work injury and from a car accident where I had injured my neck from being rear ended.  After his sessions he gives body homework like stretches [they are not really stretches, they are pandiculations] that aides in the healing of the body. I really enjoy the stretches because they are different types of stretches that I don’t ever think of doing.  He truly cares for his clients and goes above and beyond to make sure he can help you. I highly recommend Eric for all levels of body work even if you think you don’t need it you probably do.-Theresa, physicist

Yelp! Review:

“Eric is fantastic at addressing chronic pain issues! I went to him for lower back/pelvic issues and they improved immediately. I had been to 4 different physical therapists and a chiropractor over the last 2 years. Each helped a bit, but Eric is the best by far.  He seems very sincerely concerned with helping people get better. It isn’t just a job to him. His technique is gentle. He comes at pain issues from a more holistic perspective. If you’re having back pain, he’ll look beyond the back to see what other alignment issues could be contributing to your pain. I found him based on Yelp reviews alone, which made me a bit nervous at first, but I am so glad that I made an appointment.” -E., U of M biology professor

Online review, Back pain.

“Just one session with Eric Cooper demonstrated how I can begin to heal some life-long patterns and how to catch myself in the act of resorting to stress-induced muscle tension. I’m breathing more fully now and my chronic back pain finally has been addressed in a way that brings the most exquisite self-love through practices that I continue at home.

Eric’s work is filled with kindness and attention. This isn’t the same as people in the medical profession who have a good “bedside manner” though we can be grateful for those folks, too. What I mean is that Eric’s kindness and attention are focused on what needs to be released to bring kindness to my physical existence. He taught me so much in a short amount of time. I discovered muscles that I didn’t even know I had even though they have been working overtime for decades. I highly recommend that anyone with chronic pain find your way to Eric Cooper’s office.”   -C. teacher, counselor

Persistant upper back and neck pain. A day after the first visit.

“Wow, I can’t even begin to describe how much better I feel. My neck cracking/adjusting/twisting has diminished by 95%. I do feel a bit of discomfort in my shoulder blade/upper back area, almost like the place that my body was trying to constantly adjust just moved down my back, but on a scale of 1 to 10 if 10 is the most pain, that discomfort is probably a 2 or 3. Before, I was in CONSTANT pain with no relief. Absolutely nothing helped.

I can’t express how thankful I am for the time you spent helping me yesterday. I would like to come back to continue learning the somatic movements and to make more progress with this issue of mine, although I feel SO much better. My clients and my classmates have already noticed the difference (I looked like I had a tic disorder before!)” THANK YOU” -H., psychologist and counselor
